Obituary


Bonita K. Harle, 81, of Kanawha, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at her home in Kanawha.

Funeral services for Bonita Harle will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, June 3, 2024, at Kanawha Lutheran Church, 125 West Fourth Street, in Kanawha.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 6:00 PM on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East Second Street, in Kanawha, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Bonita Kay (Engstrom) Harle was born on February 1st, 1943 in Clarion, IA to Frank and Shirley (Engh) Engstrom. When she was 8 years old, she had nephritis, a kidney disease. She graduated from Boone Valley High School in Renwick with the class of 1961. After high school, she attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines and started her career at the Brenton Bank in Clarion.

She was united in marriage with Robert K. Harle on December 8, 1962 in Kanawha, IA. Bob and Bonita are the parents of Brian, Bruce, and Barbara. They soon moved to their farm near Kanawha where she helped Bob farm for years. They loved to work together. She worked for Pat Larson Accounting in Kanawha. Bob and Bonita moved from the farm to town in 2001, prior to her kidney transplant in 2002.

Bob and Bonita spent their winters in Arizona, and Bonita continued to enjoy her time with her friends in the warm weather. Bonita was a lifetime member of St. John’s and then later transferred to the Kanawha Lutheran Church. She was an active member, and it was a big part of her life.

She is survived by her children: Brian (Michelle) Harle, Bruce (Brenda) Harle, and Barbara (Richard) Garstecki; grandchildren: Jordan (Alex) Scaggs, Sabri (Jonathan) McQuie, Cheyenne (fiancé Campbell Mallak) Harle, Berkley (John) Karow, Courtney Harle, Blake Harle, Carson Harle; great-granddaughter Ivy McQuie; sister Betty Engstrom (Howard) Hughes, Aunt Rita Mae Rossman, Aunt Arlene Engh, brother-in-law Richard (Devin) Harle, sister-in-law Linda (Joe) Weir, and many other nieces and nephews.

Bonita was preceded in death by her husband Robert, parents Frank and Shirley (Engh) Engstrom, parents-in-law Ingmar and Mary Harle, brother Michael (Kay) Engstrom, and brother-in-law James Harle.
