Dorothy Eekhoff, age 94, of Kanawha Iowa entered eternal rest on July 14, 2024.
She was born Dorothy Mae Hurlburt June 3, 1930, in Bancroft, Iowa, daughter of Alton and Alice Hurlburt. She graduated from Kanawha High School in 1947.
Dorothy married Raymond Eekhoff September 16, 1947. They farmed south of Kanawha. He affectionately called her “Sport” because she was always such a good sport! They had 5 children - Ronald, James, Thomas, Debra, and Joanne; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was active in the Wright and Kanawha Christian Reformed churches, guiding Friendship Bible Coffees, and active in the Ladies Aid. Much enjoyed were the family summer fishing vacations in northern Minnesota, where Dorothy monitored the activities of the resort from her front porch and provided food for her family.
Ray and Dorothy enjoyed retirement as snowbirds in Apache Junction, Arizona, where Dorothy continued to spend winters after Ray’s passing in 2003. Dorothy will be remembered for her chocolate chip cookies, her honest and blunt way of communicating, and the love she showered on her kids, grandkids and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ray, her grand-daughter Shauna, and her siblings Orville, Howard, Joyce, and Bobby. She is survived by her sisters, Ethel Haan and Bonnie Auld.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Tuesday, July 16, at Kanawha Christian Reformed Church with Visitation prior at 10:00 am also at the church. Lunch will be served after the service with Interment following at Wright Christian Reformed Church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kanawha Community Home.
