Edward Allen, son of Donald and Loyola (McLaughlin) Hocraffer was born November 22, 1952 in Clarion Iowa. He grew up and lived in the Clarion area his whole life. Ed graduated from Clarion High School in 1971. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church.
After high school Ed was employed by the Wright County Grain Elevator and enjoyed working for Bernie and Deloros Wilhelm till it was sold to Cargill Inc. The grain complex in the southern part of Clarion had several owners over the years and Ed had many managers. The last years of Ed’s employment was with North Central Coop under the management of Mike Nail. Ed worked for Mike when he began in 1971 and for him when he retired from the elevator in 2019, enjoying many years of friendship.
Ed enjoyed working with farmers and sharing stories as they delivered their grain to his elevators. He helped on the family farm with his parents and worked many fall harvests and spring plantings on the family farm. Ed’s father passed away in 1984 and Ed stepped in to be his mother’s helper. Ed took very good care of her on the family farm till her death in 2009.
Ed remained on the farm south of Clarion till 2019 when he built a new home in Clarion for his retirement. Ed always greeted you with a smile. Ed was known to sit on his front porch and wave at anyone who passed by his residence until his health started to decline.
Ed is survived by his sisters Mary (Robert) Kidd, Donna (Mike) Pomajzl, & brothers William (Bonnalee) Hocraffer, Mark (Michelle) Hocraffer, and many nephews and nieces and other family members.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Loyola Hocraffer.
In lieu of flowers and other customary remembrances, Ed's family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to St. Croix Hospice, and sent to the family's attention at Ewing Funeral Home, P.O. Box 363, Clarion, Iowa, 50525.
