Eleanor Mae, daughter of Henry A. and Esther Mae (Van Osten) Riekens, was born on June 11, 1933 near Belmond. Eleanor grew up in the Belmond and Goodell area and graduated from Belmond High School. After high school, Eleanor worked as a waitress at Chapman’s Café in Belmond.

On June 11, 1955, Eleanor was united in marriage to Robert Robertson in Belmond. They made their home in Belmond where they raised their son, Leon. Eleanor worked at the local seed corn company (Tomco Genetics/Acco/Cargill/Dow) until her retirement in 2000.

After Robert’s passing in 1988, Eleanor met Daryl Huling. They enjoyed traveling, wintering in Florida for many years, and especially loved the casino. They spent 28 years together before Daryl passed in 2019.

Over the years, Eleanor loved bowling and was apart of the bowling league and enjoyed golfing with friends. Eleanor and her good friend, Lil Campbell, enjoyed their many traveling trips around the United States and even to Europe and Mexico.  The one thing Eleanor would not miss, was Thursday night tex-mex night at Cattleman’s.

Eleanor made her home at Country Meadows in Mason City for the last four years. While there, she was a big bingo player!

Eleanor is survived by her son Leon (Vicki) Robertson; grandchildren Jason (Denise), Chris (Hannah), Michael, and Melissa (Blaine); great-grandchildren Devin, Ashlyn, Camden, Carter, Kaiden, Katie, and Charlie; sister Bev Mosher; and numerous nieces and nephews.
