Joseph Wayne, son of John “Joe” and Ramona (Thompson) McLaughlin, was born on June 12, 1952 in Belmond. Joey grew up in Belmond and graduated from Belmond High School in 1970. While in high school, Joey was active in sports. After high school, Joey went on to NIACC where he also played football.

Starting in his teen years, Joey helped his dad at the family’s Station. He continued helping at the Station while also working on Tyrell’s farm for over 10 years before working at Kinseth Plumbing and Heating until his retirement. In his younger years, Joey loved playing slow pitch softball in Belmond. Joey volunteered many years on the Belmond Fire Department and served as captain for a few of those years.

Joey was a huge Iowa State fan! He cheered for any of the ISU sports and enjoyed having season tickets and tailgating for football games. He also enjoyed listening to country music and watching western shows and movies. Joey loved and cared for his family, and always put his family first.

Joey is survived by his daughter Erin (Mike) Strong; granddaughter Mykaela Strong (Lil’ Pumpkin as Joey called her!); mother Ramona McLaughlin; brothers Jonathan McLaughlin, Tony (Gayla) McLaughlin, and Mark (Pattie) McLaughlin; step-daughters Christina (Scott) McFarland and Amanda Campbell; step-grandchildren Gunnar and Sawyer McFarland and Luca, Bodi, and Remi Campbell; niece and nephews Tonisha Dockstader, Chase McLaughlin, Jordon McLaughlin, and Zach McLaughlin; and many great-nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father Joe McLaughlin; McLaughlin and Thompson grandparents; and aunts and uncles.
