Joye Frances (Vestweber) Ostendorf Gabrielson, the daughter of William and Frances (Baker) Vestweber, was born on May 5, 1931 at home.  She grew up on the family farm outside of Alexander and graduated from Alexander High School in 1949, where she was nominated as the Band Queen in 1948.

After high school, Joye proudly attended Iowa State University for a year.  She was united in marriage to Robert S. Ostendorf at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Belmond on September 24, 1950.  To this union, three children Robert, Jerry and Deb were born.

The couple raised their family on a farm outside of Meservey where Joye helped Robert farm until his passing in 1988.  She then continued to run the farm with boys being the heart of the operation.  She enjoyed farrowing the hogs, tending the dryer but mostly making sure everyone was fed during harvest with hot meals.

On September 15, 2007, Joye was united in marriage with Wilmer Gabrielson.  She cherished her blended family, embracing them as her own. Her ability to create a sense of belonging highlights her warm and nurturing spirit. She was a great caregiver and took care of Wilmer being able to keep him in the assisted living apartment longer.

In her free time, Joye enjoyed watching her children’s sporting events while they were growing up and later on she cheered on Caitlin Clark.  She liked going on motorcycle rides with Robert and antiquing with Wilmer.

She was a faithful member of her 68 year old coffee club and the Meservey Evangelical Church.  She will be missed by many for her kind heart and positive ways.

Joye is survived by her children Robert (Diane) Ostendorf, Jerry Ostendorf, and Deb (Al) Brown; Wilmer’s sons, Joel (Kathy) Gabrielson and Mick (Nancy) Gabrielson; 15 grandchildren Jeff (Emilee), Stephanie (Brad), Sara, Chris (Jessica), Holly (Tony), Robyn (Jeff), Abby (Andy), Ross (Jessica), Cody (Suni), Julie (Josh), Morgan (Brandon), Matt (Stephanie), Chelsey (Tanner), Jason (Stacey), and Bruce; 36 great-grandchildren Zachary, Kaylee, Caroline, Vivian, Emily, Stuart, Eloise, Brody, Griffin, Blaze, Mya, Josh, London, Cash, Ethan, Liam, Pyper, India, Anson, Jett, Keegan, Kaleb, Kameron, Trinity, Tristen, Justin, Hunter, Paityn, Tegan, Lexus, Titus, Trace, Brynlee, Lucas, Tyson and Tate; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert S. Ostendorf, husband Wilmer Gabrielson, daughter-in-law Ragina Ostendorf, sister Phylis Oxley, and brother Wayne Vestweber.
