Kay Jolene Kastler, daughter of Pete and Beatrice (Mellgren) Kastler was born May 10, 1937 in Clarion, Iowa. She attended Country School until the 8th grade and then went on to graduate with the class of 1955 from Clarion High School.

In 1956, she met and married Rush Marshall and honeymooned with friends at the Rose Bowl cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes. They settled on Kay’s family farm and raised their 5 children – Deb, Danny, Mike, Lisa and their surprise, Kevin. When she wasn’t busy with caring for her family or helping on the farm, you could find her out riding horses, shopping with her girlfriends or baking some of her yummy treats. Kay was a good cook and known for her chicken and noodles, kringla, potato cakes and tea rings.

Kay was a member of St Olaf Lutheran Church for most of her life and enjoyed singing in the choir. Over the last 10+ years, she enjoyed attending Lutheran Church of Hope whenever possible or watched online. Kay loved Jesus and had a strong faith.

After 40 years of marriage, Rush passed away unexpectedly in July of 1996. Kay continued to travel by visiting friends and family across the country. She took advantage of every moment to make countless memories with her 7 grandkids (whose age differences are over 28 years) and the added blessing of her 8 great grandkids.

Grandma Kay, known by many, was a special lady and will be remembered for her kindness, kringla, and unconditional love for her family and many fur babies.

Kay is survived by her children: Deb (Steve) Janssen of Clarion, Danny Devries of Clarion, Mike Marshall of Clarion, Lisa Marshall of Clarion and Kevin (Alison) Marshall of Clarion; their children: Jen (Nic), Andy, Tyler (Amy), Seth, Kyle (Alecia), Clinton, Kayleigh, and Zion; along with her close cousins: Sharon, Judy, Mary, Julie & Cindy and many extended family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Rush Marshall, brother Eugene Kastler, and numerous in-laws.
