Obituary
Marion L. (Meints) Carpenter, 91, of Belmond, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond.
Memorial visitation will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 PM on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond.
Marion Lois, daughter of William and Tillie (Henn) Meints, was born on February 21, 1933 in Belmond. Marion grew up in the Belmond area and went to Belmond Community School, in the spring of 1986 she got her G.E.D.
On September 24, 1950, Marion was united in marriage to Merrel Carpenter. They lived in California for two years during Merrel’s duty in the Marine Corps where she learned to do fancy card shuffles. They returned to an acreage near Kanawha Twin Lakes area, where they farmed for over 30 years while raising four children: Peggy, David, Alan, and Sandy. Marion worked alongside with Merrel on the farm and later worked at The Family Center/Cejems for a number of years. In 1985, they moved to an acreage in rural Alexander and started working at Farm and Home Publishing from 1988 until she retired in 2005 to babysit her grandson, Cejay.
Marion enjoyed oil painting, baking and cooking, canning, flower gardening and taking care of wild birds. She was a Den Mother for Boy Scouts, and she also taught Sunday school. Her family was very important to her, and she enjoyed having them live close by. The family enjoyed many camping trips together.
She was preceded in death by her husband Merrel in 2008; son David Carpenter in 2016; two grandsons Derrick Berhow and Corey Carpenter; parents William and Tillie Meints; brothers Conrad (Naomi) Meints, William (Ayako) Meints, Glenn “Moo” (Jan) Meints; sisters Esther (Gus) Halverson, Karen (John) Ofstethun and one infant sister; brother-in-law Harold Haugen; and three nephews and one nephew-in-law.
