Marjorie Marie Paca was born August 14, 1940, to William and Blanche (Kopacek) Paca in Mason City. Marj was the 2nd of 5 daughters for the couple. She was raised on a farm near Duncan and graduated from Garner High School.

Marj met Ronald Hansen at a wedding dance in Duncan; she was a bridesmaid, he was on crutches and couldn’t evade her. The couple were married in Duncan on September 2, 1967. They made their home in Kanawha, where they farmed and raised their three daughters, Nedra, Brenda and Melinda.

Marj worked in banking prior to her 25 year tenure as secretary in the Kanawha and West Hancock School District. She and Ron were regular attendees at sporting events and concerts at the school, a tradition that only continued to blossom throughout the years as her children, and later, grandchildren, began participating in these events.

As a lifelong Catholic, Marj’s faith was a central tenet in her life. She was known to spend several hours a day in private prayer and was especially dedicated to the Rosary. She distributed Communion to the hospital and homebound for many years, was a longtime member of the FCSLA (formerly the Catholic Workman), as well as a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, serving as a past regent. She instilled a deep sense of faith in the lives of her children and grandchildren.

As avid golfers, Marj and Ron participated in several tournaments, including one at Hillside Golf Course, where Marj hit a hole in one! Summers also included Black Powder Rendezvous events, family camping trips, and for their 40th Anniversary, they made a memorable trip to Alaska for 55 days. A Spiritual trip of a lifetime, that highlighted her faith, was going to Rome and seeing the Pope.

Left to cherish Marj’s memory are her husband of 57 years, Ronald; her children Nedra (Mike) Horstman, Brenda (Mike) Smith, and Melinda (Chris) Clark; 17 grandchildren TSgt Adam (Amanda) Horstman, Eric (Emily) Horstman, MSgt Nicholas (MSgt Danielle) Aitchison, Nathan (Allison) Aitchison, Emily Aitchison, Rylee, Ann, and Ava Horstman, Patrick Smith, Rachael (Ryan) Swanson, Samuel Smith Au.D, Brigid, Josef, David, and Mitchell Smith, Zachary (Caitlin) Clark, and Nora (Dalton) Hawe; nine great-grandchildren, and two more on the way; sisters, Irene (Duane) Howlett, Rita Haan, and Becky (Paul) McCormick; siblings-in-law, Dwayne (Darlene) Hansen, Norman (Helena) Hansen, Joy (John) Taylor, and Harlan (Virginia) Hansen; along with numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Marj is preceded in death by her parents, William and Blanche Paca; her father and mother-in-law Robert and Doris Hansen; her sister and brother-in-law Catherine and Monte Hiscocks; and brothers-in-law Jan Raber, Ralph Haan, and Charles Thorburn.
