Timothy Lee, son of Omer and Irene (Scott) Kelley, was born on January 28, 1960, in Belmond. He grew up in Goodell and attended school in Belmond, where he played football and wrestled. Tim graduated with the class of 1978.

After high school, Tim attended Iowa Central Community College and earned an associate degree in law enforcement. He worked for a short time as a police officer in Odebolt before moving back to Belmond.

On August 22, 1981, Tim married Kelle Modderman in Belmond. They moved to the Des Moines area where Tim worked at Firestone, before returning to Belmond to raise their three children. Tim worked at Eaton Corporation for more than 40 years until his retirement in 2020.

Tim loved being outdoors, hunting and fishing. He enjoyed spending time with friends and his bonus family, the Barkema’s. The fun times they shared over the years earned him the nickname “Nut,” until he recently was known as “Timbo.”

He liked watching football and basketball, cheering on Michigan State, the Detroit Lions, and of course Iowa State. Tim loved his family, especially his grandkids. He loved supporting them at their sporting events—his loud cheers and enthusiasm made sure everyone knew “Grandpa Tim” was there.

Tim is survived by his wife of 44 years Kelle Kelley; children Tony Kelley (Amber Mosiman), Nicole (Brandon) Heifner, and Cole (Keyra) Kelley; 7 grandchildren Cameron, Amara, Coewhan, Brody, Rennie, Callen, Brynlee, and Bennett; great-granddaughter Lainey; siblings Joe (Marcia) Kelley, Kathy Kelley, and Laurie Nelson; bonus siblings Dean Barkema, Dave Barkema, DuWayne Barkema, Darla Gabrielson, and Delwin Barkema; parents-in-law Roger and Sharon Modderman; Kelle’s siblings; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Dan Kelley; Doug Barkema and Dwight Barkema; and brothers-in-law Lee Kahl and Dennis Nelson.
