Tommy John Hill, the son of Chester and Marjorie (Thompson) Hill, was born on June 4, 1941 in Clarion, Iowa. Tom grew up on a farm West of Belmond and graduated from Belmond High School with the Class of 1959.

After graduating from high school, Tom attended Waldorf College in Forest City before returning home to work at Belmond Motors from 1960 to 1973. During this time, he took a two-year break (1964–1966) to serve in the U.S. Army in Fort Gordon, Georgia then with the 208th Military Police Company, at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. It was then that he met his wife, Chryl Gunn. The couple was united in marriage on June 25, 1966 at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. To this union, two children were born. Robert in 1968 and Barbara in 1971. The couple raised their family in Belmond. In 1973, Tom became the Owner/Manager of True Value Farm and Home. He dedicated 37 years to the business, which he truly loved, before retiring in 2010 and selling it to Mark Soma. He found retirement very challenging for a couple of years as he loved going to work at True Value and missed seeing and visiting with his customers.

Tom was an avid fisherman; he loved going fishing anytime and anywhere. Over the years, he fished lakes and rivers in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan, Missouri, South Dakota, Gulf of Mexico in Florida, and even in Alaska and Aruba.

Tom was active in the Belmond Jaycees, Belmond Fire Department, Belmond Chamber of Commerce and a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

Left to cherish their memories, wife Chryl of Belmond; son Robert “Bob” (Melissa) Hill of Columbia, Missouri; daughter Barbara “Barb” (Jeff) Meyer of Hardy, Iowa; grandchildren Brooklyn Hill and her children Boston and Ivy; Zachary (Zoe) Hill and their daughter Ellie, all of Columbia Missouri; Lucas Meyer of Spirit Lake, Iowa and Josh Meyer of Polk City, Iowa; and his sister Jane Bangs of Owatonna, Minnesota; brother-in-law Tom (Dianne) Gunn of Kanawha, Iowa; along with nephews and extended family.

Preceded in death by his parents Chester and Marjorie , father and mother-in-law Alford and Anna Jane Gunn, and brother in-law Keith Bangs.
