Betty Lou (Lindstrom) Elston was born July 24, 1933 to Carl and Cleo (Smith) Lindstrom in Clarion. She was raised and educated in Clarion, and continued to live in Clarion her entire life.
Betty was united in marriage to Gene Elston on September 28, 1950 at the Clarion United Methodist Church. To this union, children Deb and Denny were born. The couple enjoyed 66 ½ years of marriage together.
Betty worked as a nurses’ aid at the Clarion Memorial Hospital for more than 25 years. Her compassion and willingness to help others in need extended beyond her career at the hospital, and into every day life.

She was an avid reader of mystery novels, playing knock thirty-one, and of the Iowa Hawkeyes. In recent years, she enjoyed the game show channel and watching Walker: Texas Ranger.
In October of 2015, Betty was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s/Dementia. Despite the challenges her health presented, she was still the same loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
