Helen, the daughter of Lambertus and Uhlderika (Siemens) Schreur was born July 2, 1924, in rural Kanawha. She attended school in rural Kanawha and graduated from Kanawha High School in 1941.
Helen was united in marriage with Herman George Eekhoff on September 27, 1942. The couple made their home in the Kanawha area their entire life.
Helen was a faithful member of the Wright Christian Reformed Church where she enjoyed Ladies Aid and volunteering for Calvinettes and Coffee Break nursery. She exemplified an unshakeable faith and lived for the good of her family and the glory of God.
She kept busy through the years raising her family. In later years she was an amazing grandma to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing trips, nature and especially the beautiful trees and sunsets.
Her gift of hospitality served cups of tea and coffee, with "millions" served. Her sewing ability blessed her family and many others with beautiful quilts, clothes and doll clothes. She liked playing cards and dominoes (unless George was winning). She also enjoyed a good game of scrabble. Another highlight for Helen was her intellectual discussions over coffee with family and friends.
She was employed at the Kanawha Community Home for 36 years until she retired at the age of 82 years. When Helen became a resident of the Kanawha Community Home she was well cared for by her friends she had worked with.
Helen is survived by her husband of 74 years George; five children: Henry (Judy) Eekhoff of Sibley, Iowa, Bob (Ruth) Eekhoff of New Era, Michigan, Lawrence (Donyce) Eekhoff of White, South Dakota, Jean (Don) DeWaard of Pella, Iowa, Jane (Denny "Buck") Kraft of Pella; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Betty Schreur, Ordie Eekhoff, Viola Eekhoff, Dorothy Eekhoff, Paul and Jen Eekhoff, and Harlan and Delores Eekhoff; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters: George, Willem, Garrett, Mary, Jennie, John, infant, William, twin Herman.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Kanawha Christian School or the Kanawha Community Home.
