Obituary
Lyle Marvin Dockwell, 94, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma passed away peacefully at the Cherokee County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Tahlequah on June 9, 2018.
Memorial services for Lyle Dockwell will be held Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the Dows United Methodist Church, 101 East Northrup Street in Dows, with Pastor Shawn Hill officiating. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Dows.
He was born March 19, 1924 in Freeborn County, Minnesota, the fourth of eight children of the late George and Marie (Jacobsen) Dockwell. As a toddler, he moved with his family to the Coulter, Iowa area and spent his youth on the family farm. He attended Rowan Public Schools and after graduating from the 8th grade, remained at home to help his father on the family farm. He married Mary Lou Ennis on August 14, 1948. They began their married life in Clarion, Iowa where he worked for a farm implement dealership. They eventually moved back to the family farm near Coulter to farm with his mother and father. The farm remained in the family for over 50 years. After the death of both of his parents, the farm was sold and Lyle and Mary Lou bought a home in Dows, Iowa where he worked for the Dows Farmers’ Cooperative until he retired. Lyle and Mary Lou had two children, Karen and Mark. He enjoyed woodworking and wood crafts of all sorts and made numerous lawn ornaments, shelves, clocks, toys, etc., all of which are treasured by his family. He moved to Tahlequah, Oklahoma to be near his daughter and her family in 2014.
Lyle is survived by his daughter, Karen Dockwell-Butler, grandchildren: Victor Butler of Norman, OK, Vance (Nicole) Butler of Claremore, OK; Aaron (Allison) Butler of Minco, OK; great-grandchildren: Victoria (Meg) and Ella Butler of Choctaw, OK; Lincoln and Grant Butler of Claremore, OK and Samantha and Andrew Butler of Minco, OK. He is also survived by one sister, Gladys Andershok of Ft. Collins, Colorado and one brother George (Dona) Dockwell, Jr. of Belmond, Iowa and a number of nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lou; his son Mark; son-in-law John Butler; brother and sister-in-law Raymond and Inez Dockwell; sisters and brothers-in-law Velma and Clell Thompson, Myrtle and Merle Gunderson; Hazel and Kenneth Lester and Clara (Kelly) and Russell Jensen; sister-in-law Bertha Dockwell; brother-in-law Andy Andershok; nephews Gary and Lynn Lester; niece Dixie Pavelka as well as second wife Joan Shillington-Dockwell.
