Obituary
Marilyn Lou Edwards, 86, of Clarion, Iowa, passed away May 26, 2016 at the Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center following complications from a heart attack.
Visitation with the family will be 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, June 29, followed by a memorial service at First Lutheran Church, 420 First Street North West in Clarion. Private burial will be held later at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Madrid.
Marilyn Lou Ashbaugh, the daughter of Roy W. and Mary B. (Morris) Ashbaugh, was born in Rushford, Minnesota on June 22, 1929. She graduated from Huxley High School in 1947 where she played basketball. After graduation, Marilyn worked for Bankers Life in Des Moines and the Iowa Highway Commission in Ames. On July 30, 1949, she married Leo (Jack) Edwards at the Fjeldberg Lutheran parsonage in Huxley. They celebrated their 65th anniversary in 2014.
The couple farmed near Polk City until 1961 when they moved to Clarion. Marilyn worked at the Wright County sheriff’s department from 1969 to 1991, first as a radio dispatcher, then later as chief office manager. She enjoyed baking pies, fishing, card parties, reading, and traveling in their motorhome. Marilyn was a big fan of Betty Boop.
She is survived by two sons: Mark (Elaine) of Lanesboro, Minnesota and Steve (Mickey) of Knoxville; five grandchildren: Jason of Boone; Nathan of Ankeny; Justin (Gabriele) of Cedar Falls; Cale of Garner; and Tess of Knoxville; one sister-in-law, Barbara Fitzgibbon of West Des Moines; and numerous nieces, nephews, and good friends. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2014, parents and sister Melba Hill.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left with the family to be given to charities of their choice.
