Obituary


Robert ‘Steve’ Dwayne Stephenson, 82, of Clarion passed away Sunday, August 5, 2018 at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City following complications of a stroke, surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services for Robert Stephenson will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 10, 2018 at the Clarion Church of Christ, 420 North Main Street in Clarion, with Pastor Warren Curry officiating. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 9 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Steve’s family suggests memorial contributions may be left to the discretion of the family and sent to Ewing Funeral Home at PO Box 363 in Clarion, 50525.

Robert ‘Steve’ Dwayne Stephenson was born in Montezuma, Iowa on October 7, 1935 to Raymond and Sylvia Stephenson. After graduating from Tama High school in 1954, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. On July 29, 1956 he was married to his wife of 62 years, Sandra Saunders.

After serving four years in the United States Air Force, Steve continued to serve as a Police Officer in Tama, Iowa. Following that, he was employed for 32 years as an electrician for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad.

Steve was an active member in the Clarion community since moving to Clarion in 1963. He served as Commander and Chaplain in the American Legion, volunteered as an EMT, and was an elder, deacon, trustee, Sunday School teacher, and worked regularly with the youth group at the Church of Christ in Clarion for many years. Steve was very involved in Christian youth activities and enjoyed all time he spent with young people.

Steve is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sandra (Saunders) Stephenson, daughters Tanata (Kenny) LaRue of Belmond, Iowa, and Lisa (Brian) Mino of Ashton, Iowa. Steve had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Brandy and Del Luedtke and their sons Jacob and Reese Luedtke of Kanawha, Iowa, Lacie and Chuck Nguyen and their daughters Isabella and Beatrice Nguyen of Oakland, Oregon, Daniel and Laura LaRue and daughters Ava and Lea of Belmond, Iowa, Ethan Mino of Ashton, Iowa. He is also survived by his brother, Tom Stephenson of Loveland, Colorado.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John and Howard, and sister Lois Stephenson.
