Roger, the son of Edward and Fannie (Landon) Halfpop, was born January 20, 1934 in Goodell. He attended Kanawha schools and graduated from Kanawha High School. He loved to get together with classmates and treasured those friendships.
Roger met Carole just before she graduated from high school. The couple married in Hayfield at her parent’s farm on April 2, 1953. Roger and Carole lived in Iowa and Minnesota before settling in Belmond in 1974. The couple was blessed with three children: Chris, Connie and Cary.
Always a salesman, and often traveling, Roger was actively involved with his children and their activities. He loved family gatherings and wanted a house big enough for his kids, and their kids to come home for visits. Roger was a colorful sports fanatic. After settling in Belmond, he avidly followed the Cyclones for many years. His favorite sports team to watch was the Cubs, and he was thrilled to watch their recent World Series win.
Roger is survived by his children, Chris (David) Thompson of Aurora, Colorado; Connie Halfpop of Belmond; Cary (Julie) Halfpop of Des Moines; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two brothers, Leland of Goodell, and Keith of Branson, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Carole; his parents; son Eric in infancy; and grandson Levi Landphair.
