Obituary


Virginia Farris, 89, of Clarion passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion.

Funeral services for Virginia Farris will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion, with Pastor Bill Kem officiating.

Visitation will be held Friday from 11:30 AM until 1:30 PM at the funeral home prior to the funeral service.

Virginia Mae (Fiedler) Farris was born May 12, 1927 to Warren and Helen (Dawson) Fiedler in rural Ventura. She attended country schools in the rural Ventura and Fertile areas.

Virginia was united in marriage to Fred Farris on November 12, 1944 in Mason City. The couple farmed near Fertile, until moving to Belmond to farm in the early 1950s. They later moved to Clarion in 1957, were Fred was employed with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. Fred passed away on January 31, 1979.

Virginia worked for 8 years at the Clarion Care Center, and later babysat for many couples in their homes around Clarion. She also sold Avon.

Virginia loved reading Amish books and visiting Amish communities. She was an avid country music fan, and visited the country music hall of fame in Nashville. She enjoyed trips to Florida and Texas over the years, and also enjoyed many years with her longtime companion Lyle Ammerman.

Virginia is a former member of First Lutheran Church in Clarion.

Virginia thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was selfless and always put others’ needs before her own.

Virginia is survived by her children, Linda Fleener of Dumont, Roger (Sandy) Farris of West Des Moines and Karleen (Steve) Reiland of Clarion; grandchildren Lisa (Scott) Larson of Sugarland, Texas, Lony (Shannon) Fleener of Valdosta, Georgia and their children Cheyanne, Dakota and Jericho, Allan (Jennifer) Farris of West Des Moines and their children Leland, Savannah, Brandon, and Damian, Wendy (Jimmy) Vasilas of Des Moines and their children Noah, Jonah, Cameryn, and Jude, Andrew Reiland of Maxwell and his daughter Maya, and Matt Reiland of Clarion; along with numerous other family members and friends.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred, son Gerald Farris in infancy, special son Philip Edward Farris and longtime companion Lyle Ammerman.
