Obituary


Arthur Edgar Lamoureux, age 90, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025, at the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion Iowa.

A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 19, 2025 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 1207 3rd Street Northeast in Belmond.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM prior to services at the church on Friday. Lunch will be served in the parish hall immediately following Mass.

Interment will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at St. Columbkille’s Cemetery in Varina, IA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church of Belmond, IA in Art’s name. 

Art was born February 11, 1935, to Leo and Evelyn (Edgar) Lamoureux near Varina, IA. He grew up on a farm where he worked closely with his father and developed a love for the land. He graduated high school from St. Columbkille’s Catholic School in 1953.

Art was united in marriage to Joann Schnetter on June 15, 1954, at St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church, Varina, Iowa. To this union eight children were born. He took great pride in his family. Joann passed away February 2, 1973. Art later married Regina McGowan at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Fonda, Iowa. He farmed for over 50 years in the Varina area. After retiring from the Lamoureux family farm, he and Regina moved to Belmond, Iowa, where he worked for an area farmer for another 15 years, and was an active member of St. Francis Xavier parish.

In addition to his unwavering faith and love for farming, Art also enjoyed golfing, playing cards, his pets, and traveling. He was active in the Knights of Columbus, earning the rank of 4th Degree Knight; he served on the Varina City Council as well as the Board of Directors at the Marathon Farmer’s Coop Elevator. Art will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Regina of 52 years, and his eight children: Rhonda Burnside of Aurelia, IA; Julie (Mike) Reilly of Council Bluffs, IA; Roger (Paula) of Columbia, MO; Stan of Cherokee, IA; Donna Christle of Marysville, WA; Wayne (Marty) of Boone, IA; Craig (Beth) of Storm Lake, IA; and Audrey (Matt) Morrey of Boerne, TX, as well as 26 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include his sister, Cheri (Del) Connealy, sister-in-laws Linda Lamoureux and Mary Arthur, brother-in-law, John McGowan, several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joann; his parents, Leo and Evelyn; daughter-in-law, Teresa (Wayne); brother, Larry; and sisters, Janet Lee, Yvonne (Charles) Higgins; Betty (Denis) Zigrang; and Patty (Emmett) Hammen.
