Obituary


Beverly A. Wirtz, 76, of Crystal Lake passed away on Friday, December 5, 2008 at her daughter’s home in Iowa City surrounded by her family.

Funeral services for Beverly Wirtz will be held Friday, December 12, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Britt with Pastor Stan Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation for Beverly Wirtz will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West, in Britt and continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Beverly Ann (Schutjer) Wirtz, daughter of Henry and Ella (Jacobson) Schutjer, was born on January 11, 1932 in Britt, Iowa. After attending schools in Britt she worked at First State Bank in Britt.

On April 2, 1951 she married Paul Wirtz at the Evangelical Free Church in Britt. They farmed for four years in Ottosen, Iowa and twelve years at Britt. She worked at Marting Manufacturing in Britt for many years as bookkeeper.

Beverly retired in 1995 at which time she enjoyed quilting and gardening. She loved her family and made quilts and afghans for special events, warming them as well as their hearts.

Beverly attended both the Upper Flat Evangelical Free and Britt Evangelical Free Churches. She was active in helping with the Awana’s and the Women’s Circle for funeral lunches.

Beverly is survived by a daughter, Vicki Ibarra and husband Hector of Iowa City; two grandsons: Bret Ibarra of Houston, Texas and Derek Ibarra of Iowa City; two brothers: Donald Schutjer of Apple Valley, Minnesota and Richard Schutjer and wife Judy of Hazel Green, Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Mark Wirtz in August 1984; and her husband, Paul Wirtz in April 1998.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Britt Evangelical Free Church Benevolent Fund and/or Iowa City Hospice.
