as a professional sailing yacht delivery captain, i always need three great crew mates to help me and to watch my back. one day in 2007, charlie responded to my online post…and the rest is a WONDERFUL series of memories. we loved each other from the start. (how could anyone not love charlie?) “sir charles”, as i called him, became my number one person to ask along as my first mate, my right hand man, my second set ot of eyes. “jim, have you thought about this?”, he would kindly address my oversights; i always admired how gently he would weigh in. over 18 years, charlie sailed with me more than any other mate (THANK YOU, MONICA ❤️). with a heart as big as his smile, charlie lived large every day and brought joy to every person who crossed his path. his love for you, monica, was like an aura he thoroughly enjoyed. love in the pacific, love on the tall ships, love in belmond. charlie will always, truly, remain an inspiration to me. i thought of sir charles quite often, missing him when i was far from belmond. i will carry my brother - my great friend - in my thoughts for as long as i live, his memory will remind me to be as kind to others as i watched him be to all. rest in pain-free peace, my friend. thank you for every moment you trusted in me. i will always love you - and your high-bar example. ❤️

Charlie was one of the kindest people in our class. He aged so beautifully-full of joy and wasn't shy about showing this when seeing an old friend or classmate. Monica and Charlie will always be in my warmest thoughts about what is best about Belmond. 💕 Go Broncos! 💙🐎A

I'm so sorry to hear of Charlie's passing and send so much love to Monica and her family. I remember Charlie, who crewed aboard the schooner Adventuress with his beloved wife, as smart and funny. His nickname for little kids who'd come for programs was "schmicker smackers." Remembering that makes me smile. We will find a time for 8 bells aboard the ship to honor Charlie's watch.
