Chris Jerdell Hinders, the son of Thomas and Hazel (Larson) Hinders, was born on June 18, 1942, in Britt, Iowa. He was raised on a farm outside of Woden and was a member of the first graduating class of Woden-Crystal Lake High School in 1960.

Following high school, Chris began working for Buns Construction before starting what would become a 40-year career at the Woden Elevator, where he served as an agronomist. He faithfully dedicated many years to his work before retiring in 2006.

On July 19, 1969, Chris was united in marriage to Barbara Robinson in Lake Mills, Iowa. The couple made their home on a farm outside of Woden and later moved into town in 1974. Chris truly enjoyed the outdoors, spending many hours hunting and fishing. He also cherished the simple pleasure of sharing a hot cup of coffee and conversation with friends.

The Christmas season held a special place in his heart. For many years, Chris and his family sold Christmas trees, creating lasting memories together. Christmas Eve was especially meaningful as they gathered to enjoy kumla and celebrate the holiday. Above all else, Chris treasured time spent with his family, who were the center of his life.

Chris is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Hinders of Britt; his children Chad (Allison) Hinders of Newell, Cheri (Alan) Schmidt of Marion, Wade (Ann) Hinders of Britt, and Ryan (Brooke) Hinders of Garner; grandchildren Taylen, Kinzee, Mylie, Brynlee, Ethan, Emily, Evan, Avery, Heston, Laingstin, Quinlynn, and Boyden; great-grandchild Nazani; sister Helen Ebaugh; brother LeRoy (Terry) Hinders along with extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Elise Hinders, sister Colleen Markham and brother Harold Hinders.
