Obituary


Christine M. (Schaffer) Thompson, 58, of Goldfield, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester, Minnesota.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 5:00 PM on Sunday, June 11, 2023 at The Red Shed Event Center, 908 2nd Street North West in Clarion.

Visitation will take place one hour prior to services at The Red Shed Event Center.

Christine Marie, daughter of Robert Schaffer and Violet (Smith) Schaffer Pergande, was born on December 19, 1964 in Iowa Falls. Chris grew up in the Clarion and Renwick area. She graduated from Renwick High School in 1983.  After high school, Chris attended Iowa Central. On December 28, 1985, Chris was united in marriage to Danny Thompson in Renwick. They raised their children in Goldfield. While their boys were growing up, Chris worked in the kitchen at the school. She later worked at Hagie’s. Chris loved being around her family and spending time together. They took many camping trips and enjoyed fishing. Chris was a social butterfly – she loved to chat with friends. She loved keeping up with everyone on social media. She enjoyed traveling and going gambling at the casino. Chris is survived by two sons Austin (Janelle) Thompson of Hardy and Scott Thompson of Eagle Grove; grandchildren Easton, Emmy, Addy and Lainey; siblings Shari (Rich) Llewellyn, Jim (Cindy) Schaffer, Allen “Rick” (Susan Sherman) Schaffer,  Robert “Bobby” (Ronda) Schaffer, Cindy Schaffer; Danny’s siblings Donna (Larry) Cameron, Marvin (Janet) Thompson, Bonnie Welter, Rick (Jane) Thompson, Dale (Roxanne) Thompson, Mark (Tammy) Thompson, Doug Thompson, Greg (Allyson) Thompson, Darlene (John) Egesdal, and David (Marcia) Thompson; along with many nieces, nephews and extended family. She is preceded in death by her husband Danny Thompson in March 2023; son Tony Thompson; parents Robert Schaffer and Violet Pergande; brother Steven Schaffer; and brothers-in-law Larry and Roger Thompson and Delmar “Doc” Welter.
