Obituary
Doreen C. (Taylor) Shaw, 68, of Meservey, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022 at the MercyOne North Iowa Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services for Doreen Shaw will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at Thornton United Methodist Church, 404 Maple Street in Thornton, with Pastor Deb Devine officiating. Burial will take place at the Meservey Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Monday, April 25, 2022 at Thornton United Methodist Church, 404 Maple Street in Thornton, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
Doreen Colet (Taylor) Shaw, the daughter of Clifton Taylor and Ferne (Floy) Darnell, was born August 14, 1953 in Mason City, Iowa. Doreen grew up in Minnesota and Thornton. She graduated from Meservey-Thornton High School with the class of 1971. After high school, Doreen continued her education at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minnesota.
Doreen was united in marriage to Arnie Shaw on November 3, 1973 at the Richland Lutheran Church in Thornton. Arnie & Doreen raised their two daughters in Meservey, where Doreen worked at the Meservey Co-op. She retired from the co-op after 38 years where she made many friends along the way.
Immediately after retirement, Doreen purchased her well-deserved red Mustang convertible and loved to cruise. She liked camping, taking the grandkids for ice cream, the girls on shopping trips and the family up to Leech Lake in Minnesota. You could find Doreen relaxing on the deck reading mystery or romance novels or enjoying boat rides in Clear Lake. Most of all, Doreen loved supporting her grandchildren. She loved making them scotcharoos, watching all their events and always letting them sit on her lap.
Doreen was a strong, sassy, straight to the point gal who will be missed every day.
Doreen is survived by her husband Arnie of Meservey; daughter Nikki (Jay) Thompson of Decorah and their children Tyler and Dylin; daughter Krista (Joey) Dickman of Meservey and their children Breckyn and Brylee; brothers Scott (Mary) Darnell of Denver, Colorado and Shane Darnell of Mason City along with extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Clifton Taylor and Ferne Darnell, daughter Stacy Renae Shaw, brother Fred Taylor, parents-in-law Wayne and Ardis Shaw and sister-in-law Bertha Shaw.
