Douglas “Doug” Bauer, the son of Ronald Bauer and LoriAnne Neal, was born on October 13, 1987 in Watertown, South Dakota. Doug grew up in Webster, SD until the family moved to Britt, Iowa when he was nine. Doug graduated from West Hancock School District with the class of 2006.

After high school, Doug worked at Monson and Son’s before becoming his dad’s wingman. The two spent countless hours working side by side installing seamless gutters and running the family business, Sidetrack Lanes. Doug’s talent for craftmanship, detail and working with his hands became evident as he not only helped run the businesses but made significant contributions to its success. He invented custom parts for the bowling alley and most recently helped install the new synthetic lanes.

Doug’s creative side extended past his inventions, and he became a skilled woodworker, often making personalized gifts for his mother and other family members including Christmas decorations. He crafted a bed for himself using one of the original wood lanes removed from Sidetrack Lanes. He even included hidden storage compartments.

Doug had a passion for the outdoors, enjoying activities like hunting and fishing, with trips to Webster, South Dakota. During these trips, he created countless memories with his uncles and cousin, Connor. He also loved giving his niece and nephews gator rides and spending quality time with his dog, Tyson. Doug’s deep care for his family was apparent in everything he did, always making sure everyone was okay. He will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, kind heart, simple ways, and the profound love he had for his family.

Doug is survived by his mother Lori Sewick of Evansdale; step-father Randy Sewick; father Ron (Tina) Bauer of Britt; step-mother Mona Bauer; siblings Sonya (Josh) Van Dyke; Rob (Shayna) Bauer, Donny Zittritsch, and Emma Bauer; step-siblings Darielle (Jeremy)True, Kaylee (Chase) Smith, Sydney (Mason Muth) Hudspeth and Ryleigh Hudspeth; nieces and nephew Harpyr Van Dyke, Tripp Van Dyke, McKenin Muth and Kasen True; Aunts Cheryl (Bob) Nelson and Judy (Rick) Van Gilder-Aslesen; Uncles Randy (Lila) Bauer, Mark Bauer, Scott (Pam) Bauer, Wayne Neal, Kevin (Nancy) Neal and Greg Neal along with many cousins and extended family.
