Glory was born to Harold and Arlene (Schroeder) Montandon on October 3, 1951 in Hampton, Iowa. She lived on a farm in Iowa Falls and attended school in Iowa Falls until 9th grade. Glory then moved with her parents to a farm in Clarion, Iowa in 1966 and graduated high school in 1969. Immediately after graduating, Glory moved to Mason City, Iowa and attended La James College of Cosmetology, graduating on July 2nd, 1970. Glory worked as a hairdresser for 48 years in Mason City, IA; Clear Lake, IA; Sun City, Arizona; and Clarion, IA where she owned and operated a hair salon for almost 40 years. On November 12, 1971 Glory married Bob Chapman of Clarion. They briefly lived in Omaha, NE and Glendale, AZ while he was in the Air Force before returning to Clarion to raise a family. In August 2019, Bob and Glory moved to Des Moines, IA to live closer to their children and grandchildren.
Glory had a love for chocolate, shopping, going to casinos, taking road trips, and taking care of animals. She adored and cared for numerous pets throughout her life and loved all animals. Glory hopes to be remembered as a kind, caring person, with a little bit of sass!
Glory is survived by her husband Bob of 51 years; her son Phil (Laura) Chapman of Ankeny, and her daughter Jill (Chris) Kimpson of Des Moines. She is also survived by her two additional “chosen children” - their son/nephew, Brad Montandon, who they accepted legal guardianship for when he came to live with them at the age of 16, and their foreign exchange daughter from Spain, Alejandra Garcia, who lived with them for a year but remained in their lives and a part of the family forever. Glory is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Trystan, Evan, Brady, and Camden Chapman of Ankeny; and Ava and Leo Kimpson of Des Moines. She is also survived by one brother Monty (Julie) Montandon of Estherville, as well as many friends, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Glory was preceded in death by her dad, Harold Montandon (2003); her mom, Arlene Montandon (2013); her brother, Larry Montandon (2022); her best friend & aunt Erma Lou (2021); her nephew Troy Montandon (2006); her close friend Bernie Anderson, her grandparents Lee & Luella Montandon and William and Amelia (Hipp) Schroeder, as well as many other cherished aunts, uncles, and friends.
Remembrances and memorials may be given to her family or to an animal rescue shelter in her name.
