Obituary
Gloria Anne (Nielsen) Wellik of Garner, IA passed away October 28, 2025 from complications of a stroke.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 335 First Avenue Southeast in Britt. Private family burial will take place.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, November 3, 2025, at Ewing Funeral Home, 178 Center Street West in Britt. Rosary and Scriptural Vigil service will begin at 3:45 PM prior to visitation.
Glo was born September 21, 1935 in Garner, IA. She graduated from Garner High School in 1952 and St. Joseph School of Nursing in Sioux City, IA in 1956. She worked at Mercy Hospital in Mason City before meeting Joe while handing out bulletins at St. Boniface Church in Garner, IA and was wooed by his 1949 red convertible.
Joe and Glo were married January 8, 1958 and settled in Britt, IA. Glo worked for several years at Hancock County Memorial Hospital as a surgical nurse, before retiring to be a full-time mother, wife, grandma and aunt to so many, including Julie Wellik Bloomberg.
Glo loved gardening, bridge, reading and traveling, especially to Maui and Spain. She was a true sports fan. The Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs were two of her favorite teams. She attended endless sporting events cheering on her children, grandchildren and the Hawkeyes. She volunteered for Meals for Wheels.
Glo made great friendships and connections at every location she lived...Britt, West Des Moines, Forest City and Garner. She generously entertained with a welcoming style. She was not shy about throwing a fun party. Cooking and golfing were avid passions that she enjoyed greatly. She golfed until a few days before her death. The Britt and Forest City golf courses were the site of many fond memories with friends and family.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Joseph F. Wellik of Garner, IA; two sons, Dr. Timothy J. Wellik(Wendi) of El Paso, TX and Dr. Patrick J. Wellik(Molly) of Apple Valley, MN; two daughters, Lisa A. Utley(Craig) of North Liberty, IA and Ann M. Loges(Scott) of Forest City, IA; Daughter in law, Jane E. Palmer(Brian) of Emmetsburg, IA; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brother, Hans P. Nielsen of Fort Dodge.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hans and Anna (Faas) Nielsen; son, Philip J. Wellik; brother, Joe Nielsen; infant brother, George P. Nielsen.
