On November 4, 1953, Harlan married Deloris Harringa Eekhoff in Woden, IA. They first made their home on a farm near Kanawha, IA and later moved to a farm near Woden, IA where they raised their five children. Harlan enjoyed his years on the farm milking cows, raising hogs and crop farming. He also had Eekhoff Construction and built eight new homes and managed many remodeling projects in the surrounding area. In 1987, they moved to Britt, IA, residing in their new home that he built. He also was employed at Marting Manufacturing in Britt, IA for several years.

Harlan and Deloris moved to the Summit House Retirement Community, Britt, IA in the fall of 2019 where he enjoyed pampering by the caring staff.

Harlan was a devout Christian and a faithful member of Woden Christian Reformed Church, Woden, IA and later Britt Christian Reformed Church - At the Crossroads Ministry, Britt, IA. He was a member of the men’s quartet for over 50 years.

He was a friend to everyone with the gift of gab. He was especially fond of his

grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always ready to greet them with a joke to make them laugh. In his spare time, Harlan could be found working in his workshop on a project or two for the grandchildren.
