Obituary


Joan ‘Jo’ C. (Asendorf) Kintzi, 87, of Belmond, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at her home.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond. Burial will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James, Minnesota.

Joan Carol, daughter of Bernhardt and Edith (Barge) Asendorf, was born on March 1, 1936 in St. James, Minnesota. Jo grew up and attended school in St. James.

On September 14, 1954, Jo was united in marriage to Gerald Kintzi in St. James. In 1957, Gerry took a teaching job in Belmond. They made their home in Belmond where they raised their two children, Kris and Ron. Jo worked as a secretary at Acco Seed, a salesperson for Dougherty Jewelry Store, a bus driver for Belmond Schools and a travel agent at Four Seasons Travel.  She also volunteered as a girl scout leader and cub scout leader.

Jo was an amazing cook – she loved to entertain family and friends! She also loved to travel!! She traveled with family and friends to Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Mexico to name a few places.  Jo and Gerry enjoyed going on fishing trips over the years. She especially loved summer vacations with her children and grandchildren. Jo also enjoyed riding her horse on trails, oil painting, sculpting clay and loved looking for and collecting rocks and driftwood.

Jo is survived by her loving husband Gerry Kintzi of Belmond; daughter Kris (Paul) Rogalla of Indianola; son Ron (Audrey) Kintzi of Rosemount, Minnesota; grandchildren Ryan (Molly) Rogalla and their children Joanna and Bernhardt, Brandon (Amy) Rogalla and their children Lauren, Olivia, Wyatt, and Walker, Amanda (Michaela) Kintzi-Neisen, and Nathan Kintzi; sisters-in-law Kathy Asendorf and Eldoris (Kintzi) Bunnell; nieces and nephews Pat (Jerry) Kelly, Bobbie (Jim) Senske, Lori (Greg) Wiley, Brad (Shawna) Asendorf, Jody (Jim) Arndt, Brian Asendorf; and many extended family members.

She is preceded in death by her parents Ben and Edith Asendorf; and brother Roger Asendorf.
