JoAnn (Churchouse) Covington was born on July 15, 1954, to Robert Adams and Anna (Albers) Churchouse in Belmond, Iowa. She was their only child.
JoAnn was raised and educated in Belmond, graduating as Salutatorian from Belmond High School with the Class of 1972. She continued her education at Hamilton Business College in Mason City.
Immediately following high school, JoAnn was united in marriage to Randy Covington. To this union, daughter Amy Ann was born. The couple later divorced.
JoAnn worked for ACCO Seeds in Belmond until they closed. She began working at First State Bank in Belmond shortly thereafter, retiring after more than 42 years of service. She worked primarily in bookkeeping and during her tenure, shepherded the bank transition from manual ledger posting to the real-time accounting that computerized ledgers provide.
JoAnn loved tending to the beauty of her yard. She looked forward to shopping for flowers and going to arts and crafts events every year. She enjoyed 80’s rock and seeing the great bands of the 70’s, but swooned over Barry Manilow most of all.
JoAnn is well-known for her love of dogs, pouring her heart into caring for her “furry little jumpers” over the years. Nothing brought her more joy than being Grammy to Caden and Corey. Sharing a meal, playing games and just being together with family was the time most cherished.
JoAnn is survived by her daughter, Amy Ann (Tom) Jensen, of Sheffield; grandsons, Caden and Corey; Lola the beagle; her cousins, Chrissy (Mike) Uhlenhopp, Jeff (Amanda) Uhlenhopp, Emily Uhlenhopp, Shirley Fulton, Mike Bryant and Alton Albers; son-in-law Tom’s family: his mother Joan Jensen of Sheffield, brother Bob (Kim) Jensen of Sheffield and sister Mary (Kenny) Amsbaugh of Sheffield; along with numerous friends and longtime co-workers.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Anna Churchouse; one grandchild, who was too pure to be born into this world; her poodle, Moosie and cocker spaniels, Lady, Daisy and Cookie.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House or your local animal shelter.
