Obituary


Kenneth Bird, 71, of Britt, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at MercyOne North Iowa in Mason City

Funeral service for Kenneth Bird will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, April 28, 2023 at Britt Christian Reformed Church, At the Crossroads Ministry, 569 Main Avenue North in Britt with Pastor Kevin Boss officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 27, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 178 Center Street West in Britt and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Kenneth Dale Bird, Jr., was born October 2, 1951 to Kenneth and Florence (VanDusseldorp) Bird, Sr., in Britt, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Britt, and graduated from Britt High School with the Class of 1970.

Following graduation, Kenny served in the United States Air Force from 1970 - 1974 as an engine mechanic. Along with his service stateside, Kenny was deployed to Thailand during the Vietnam War.

Following his discharge from the Air Force, Kenny attended Iowa Lakes Community College where he received an Associate of Arts degree in mechanics, and began working for Ernie Williams John Deere for a time before beginning his 40+ year career with the Coop in Britt in 1976. Kenny retired in February of 2017.

In 1977, Kenny met Diane Jurgens. The couple was married on July 1, 1978 and lived their entire married life in Britt, where they raised their sons, Aaron, Adam and Andrew.

As most know, Kenny was a car guy, through and through. He loved attending car shows and going on cruises with his 1953 Plymouth Crambrook, his 1966 Malibu or his 2013 Challenger. He and Diane drove many miles, including to the Oregon coast, Wyoming, to Kentucky to see the Ark, as well as to Wisconsin and along the Mississippi river.

Kenny was a longtime member of the Britt Christian Reformed Church.

Kenny will be remembered as a hardworking and loving husband and father.

Kenny is survived by his wife, Diane of Britt; sons Aaron Bird of Grundy Center, Adam (Molly) Bird of rural Hampton, and Andrew (Lonnie) Bird of rural Rowley, Iowa; grandchildren Teaghan, Colin, Cooper, Tenley and Tatum, all of Hampton; sisters Sally (Bob) Haag of Algona and Etta (Dave) Mull of Forest City; brother-in-law Wayne Christensen of Algona; along with numerous extended family members and friends.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Karen Christensen.
