Obituary
Larry D. Hansen, 85, of Dows, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at the Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at United Church of Rowan, 811 Pesch Street in Rowan, with Pastor Nancy Hofmeister officiating. Burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery in Rowan.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion.
Larry Dean Hansen was born on June 11, 1939 to Hans and Esther (Kreitlow) Hansen at Ellsworth Community Hospital in Iowa Falls.
Larry attended school in Rowan and graduated from Rowan. Larry farmed with his father, Hans, after high school.
On April 24, 1959, Larry married the love of his life, Janet Andrews from Alexander. To this union came Jeff, Jay, Jim, and Jackie. Larry and Janet celebrated 65 years of marriage on April 24, 2024.
Larry and Janet farmed, milked cows, and raised hogs and chickens. Larry also drove truck and helped shell corn for Roy Johnson of Dows and worked in town for Rowan Lumber and Grain, Galt Feed and Grain, Meridith in Clarion, and retired from Winnebago in Hampton.
Larry enjoyed having coffee and visits in Rowan in the mornings and coffee in the afternoons in Dows. Over the years, Larry and Janet enjoyed camping and traveling to see the kids and grandkids. Alot of fun memories were had while camping with the grandchildren! When Larry’s health declined, they began camping and traveling with their son, Jay. They enjoyed riding out to Michigan to see close family friends.
A highlight for both Larry and Janet was when Jay packed his truck and drove them through Colorado to see the mountains for the first time at 80 years old. From there, they traveled to Boulder City, Nevada to attend Elizabeth’s high school graduation.
Larry was a member of the United Church of Rowan and Rowan’s Lion’s Club. Larry enjoyed going to antique tractor shows and farm auctions.
Larry is survived by his wife Janet Hansen; children Jeff (Theresa) Hansen, Jay Hansen (Jerry Jones), Jim (Barbara) Hansen, and Jackie (Michael) Mays; grandchildren Brett (Ariel), Melissa, Sarah (John), Megan (Brian), Aaron (Amanda), Collin (Lindsey), Elizabeth, and Emily; great-grandchildren Kaylyn, Kohen, Kora, and Kolbie; nieces Judy Johnson and Jeanette Wenzel; and very special friends Todd and Vicki Livingston and their children Cayla and Nathan from Frankenmuth, Michigan.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Hans and Esther; sister Maxine Weir; and nephew Jerry Weir.
