Obituary
Mary Cook, 89, passed away on January 3, 2023 at Westview Care Center in Britt.
Memorial services for Mary Cook will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, January 22, 2023 at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West, in Britt, with Pastor Robert Dodge officiating.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt. A private burial will take place at a later date.
Mary was born April 15, 1933 in Forest City, Iowa to Walter and Reba (Omans) Thompson. She grew up and attended school in the Forest City area, graduating from Forest City High School.
On March 1, 1951 she was united in marriage to Ralph Cook Sr. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Forest City. All of their married life was spent in the Britt area working and raising their six children. Mary was a member of the Britt United Methodist Church.
Mary was a homemaker for many years before she decided to join the workforce. Her time working was spent at Westview Care Center, Winnebago Industries and Britt Ben Franklin before she decided to start an in home day care until she retired.
Mary enjoyed her grandchildren very much and the home was always open for them to spend time getting to know each other. A lot of her time was spent in the kitchen cooking, canning, freezing and baking and was always ready to share with her family and friends. When she wasn’t in the kitchen, many hours were spent doing cross stitch, crocheting and quilting. She made many afghans and quilts that will be cherished.
Mary is survived by her children, Joseph (Jane) Cook of Britt, Karen (Dan) Peterson of Britt, Mark (Julie) Cook of Garner, Steven (Jill) Cook of Algona and Terry Cook of Garner; 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and her brother Roy (Debra) Thompson of Knoxville, TN., along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph Sr., son Ralph Jr., grandson Jamie Cook and 5 brothers.
