Mary Elaine, daughter of Gary and Viola (Hilpipre) Mosher, was born on September 30, 1937 in rural Woolstock at her grandparent’s farm. Mary and her family lived in Eagle Grove for a short period of time before moving to a farm near Wall Lake. She attended country school until 8th grade and graduated from Clarion High School in 1956. While in high school, Mary met James Howieson.

On June 24, 1956, Mary and Jim were united in marriage. Jim and Mary made their home on a farm near Clarion and later moved into town, where they have lived for over 50 years. Mary, along with Jim, owned and operated a filling station and tire shop in Clarion.

In their younger years, Mary and Jim enjoyed traveling to spend time with family in other states. Mary was involved in the community in a number of ways, including teaching Sunday School for many years and was a leader in 4-H, Boy Scouts, and Campfire Girls. Most importantly, she loved and was very proud of her family and was a dedicated mother and grandmother.

Mary is survived by her husband of 62 years Jim Howieson; children Chris Anderson (Jeff Nelson) and Terry (Malinda) Howieson; four grandchildren Heath (Krissy) Anderson, Jesse (Brittany) Howieson, Casie (Mark) Pittman, and Taylor (Austin) Keller; five great-grandchildren Levi Anderson, Ava Howieson, Lucy Anderson, Cooper Keller, and Tucker Howieson; brother Guy Mosher; and many other extended family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother Gene Mosher; sister Eileen Paul; and infant brother Larry Mosher.
