Obituary
Mona (Lowe) Hamilton Lundstrom, 91, of Kanawha, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Hancock County Health System in Britt.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at Faith Bible Church, 404 4th Street Southwest in Britt with Pastor Todd Holman officiating. Burial will take place at Concord Cemetery in Garner.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Mona Catherine, daughter of Lyle and Elsie (Darst) Lowe, was born in rural Webster County Iowa. She grew up on her grandparents farm near Hayfield, and attended Hayfield school.
On June 16, 1949, Mona was united in marriage to Donald Hamilton in Mason City. The couple farmed in Hayfield and later in Joice, before moving to a farm near Britt in 1958. After Don retired in 1985, Don and Mona wintered in Weslaco, Texas for over 10 years before Don’s passing in 1996.
Mona and Don were actively involved with mission work in Progresso, Mexico. While there, they helped build houses and supply food and clothing to the people in local towns. They were also active in the Methodist Church in Britt for several years. Mona was proud to receive her Methodist Women’s pin.
After Don passed, Mona continued to winter in Texas where she met and married Linn Lundstrom. They spent long winters there and continued mission work and enjoyed warm weather and friends. They moved to Kanawha in 2013 to be closer to Mona’s family. Mona felt so blessed to live independently at the age of 91.
Over the years, Mona enjoyed gardening and sharing her produce with family and friends. She loved to catch up with her grandchildren and watch them grow up. She often wrote letters to her grandchildren and friends. In her later years, Mona liked to watch any sport that was showing on TV and liked to read.
Mona is survived by her children Mark Hamilton of Springville, California, Sue (Mike) Beukema of Kanawha, Paul (Sandy) Hamilton of Gretna, Nebraska, and Jean (Aaron) Buchholz of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren Bryan Beukema, Brent (Elizabeth) Beukema, Kristina (Kevin Sykora) Hamilton, Joel Buchholz, and Elizabeth Buchholz; great-grandson Zach Beukema; sister Lynnea Smith; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Don Hamilton; husband Linn Lundstrom; son Jay Hamilton; sister Elaine Swank; and her parents.
