Paul Arnold Ahlstrom, the son of Arvid and Mary Ellen (Hinman) Ahlstrom, was born on October 4, 1928 in Belmond, Iowa.  Paul attended Belmond High School and graduated with the class of 1946.

After high school, Paul was drafted into the United State Army and served overseas during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as a United States Army Corporal on March 13, 1953 and was a recipient of a Purple Heart Medal.

When he came home from the service, he helped his Uncle farm and started working for the Department of Transportation. In the summer he worked on the bridge crew and in the winter he helped plow snow.  Once he retired from the D.O.T, he was the head groundskeeper for the Dows golf course.

Paul was united in marriage to Nancy Clutter on September 2, 1982 at the Belmond Congregational Church.  The couple raised their family in Clarion where they have resided since.

In his free time, Paul enjoyed playing golf and cribbage, watching Westerns, woodworking and baking especially Mickey Mouse pancakes for his family.  He sang in the Methodist Church Choir for 35 years and could always be found outside in his chair doing crosswords and word search puzzles.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years Nancy Ahlstrom of Clarion, children Kim (Kirk) Mallinger of Fort Dodge, Kevin Ahlstrom of Clarion and Kim Clagett of Sheffield; grandchildren Logan, Ashley, Jeremy, Stacie, Zac, Lucas, Brittany and Gracie; great-grandchildren Ashlynn, Tysne, Savannah, Clayton, Linus, Gohan and Brennen along with extended family and friends.
