Paul Vernon Jackson, the son of Lewis and Selma (Jacobsen) Jackson, was born September 9, 1934, in Kanawha, Iowa.

Paul graduated from Kanawha High School, Class of 1953, with honors playing basketball and baseball.  Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy on active duty from January, 27, 1955 to December 10, 1958 and was honorably discharged from the reserves January 26, 1963.  He met who would become the love of his life, Eleanor Kaye (Wagner) Jackson before he went into the Navy, and when he returned to the States, they were married January 16, 1960.  He was very proud of his service and would light up when he would talk about his time on the USS Albany and USS Macon, stopping in ports of call that included Greece, Turkey, Italy and Spain.  After his service in the Navy, he returned to Lampert Yards where he continued to work and eventually purchase the business with his brothers.

Paul enjoyed spending time with his family laughing and telling stories, golfing with his friends, and working with wood.  He was always willing to make things for other people, from his friends and family to children he barely knew - from intricate construction equipment to cradles for baby dolls - he had a natural talent to bring things to life made of wood.  If you mentioned Paul’s name to someone, the first reaction was always “he is such a nice man.”  To his friends and family, everyone would describe Paul as deeply faithful to the Lord, honest no matter what, born with the ability to tackle any project, willing to help anyone, and he made strangers into friends immediately.  In addition to being an amazing son, husband, father and friend, he served on the library board, church council, and was a member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, LeRoy (Red) Jackson, Stanley Jackson, Alvin Jackson, Lewis (Junior) Jackson, Marian Kraft, Luetta Stoeckel, and daughter, Sarah Perez.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years Kaye; sister Vivian Waage; his sons, Scott and his wife Dawn Jackson of Carlisle, Iowa; Neal and his wife Laura Jackson of Johnston, Iowa; two grandchildren, Brady Jackson of Indianola, Iowa and Zachary Jackson of Johnston, Iowa; great grandchildren, Noah and Ronan Jackson of Indianola, Iowa; son-in-law Delbert Perez along with many nieces and nephews.

Those who wish to remember Paul in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Kanawha Lutheran Church.
