Peggy Ann (Perkins) Wirtz, daughter of Melvin and Betty (Kisch) Perkins, was born on September 1, 1954, in Emmetsburg, Iowa. She grew up in Mallard and graduated from West Bend High School in 1973, where she met her high school sweetheart and future husband, Aaron Wirtz.

Peggy and Aaron were united in marriage on July 26, 1975, at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in West Bend. They began their life together farming outside of West Bend, later living briefly in Algona, before settling in Belmond, where they raised their family.

A woman devoted to her faith and family, Peggy cherished her role at home, caring for her husband and children. She later worked at Syngenta Seeds for 20 years, semi-retiring in April of last year.

Peggy had a creative spirit and a love for the outdoors. She enjoyed making crafts and attending numerous craft shows, and she took great pride in tending her large flower and vegetable gardens, often sharing their bounty at the Clear Lake Farmer’s Market where she was a familiar and friendly face. She was also often found at the Belmond Library, always having multiple books checked out at a time. Peggy loved cheering on her beloved Iowa Hawkeyes, but above all, she treasured time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was a faithful member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and an active member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Peggy will be remembered for her kind heart, deep love for others, and her spirited personality.

She is survived by her children Andrew (Rozlyn) Wirtz and their children Caleb, Isabella, Elijah and Josephine of Bondurant, Sara (Tyrell) Watts and their children, Elizabeth, Adeline, Acelia (Dylan) Bock, Tavian of Belmond, Elizabeth Wirtz and her children Lyla and Aaron of Belmond, Anthony (Jeffrey) Wirtz of Denver, Colorado and Jacob (Paula) Wirtz and their children Evelyn and Julian of Garner; siblings Teresa (Joel) Kellenberger, John (Lauri) Perkins, Lori (Jim) Detrick, Lisa (Steve) Criswell, Carol (Dave) Forey and Mike (Janet) Perkins along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Aaron in 2006, sister Karen Hubbell, and nephew Jason Kellenberger.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Belmond Children’s Garden or the Belmond Public Library.
