Obituary


Raymond O. Barnes, 82, of Britt, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2009.

Funeral services for Raymond Barnes will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at First Lutheran Church, 70 5th Avenue, in Britt with Pastor Lee Nelson officiating. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 16, 2009 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West, in Britt and will continue one hour prior to the funeral service.

Raymond Orlin Barnes, the son of Ole and Bertha (Aggrimson) Barnes, was born on January 17, 1927 on the family farm near Woden, Iowa. He was raised in the Woden area, and attended country school and high school in Buffalo Center.

In 1968, Raymond married Gertrude Swanson, and the couple made their home in Britt, where Raymond continued to farm and started Barnes Equipment, selling new and used farm machinery.

Raymond was a hard worker who took a lot of pride in his work. He loved going to farm sales and working with machinery.

Raymond also enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren. Raymond looked forward to family dinner every Sunday at Twyla’s home.

Raymond is survived by three children: Sandye Armstrong of Klemme, Dennis (Linda) Barnes of Britt, and Twyla (Mark) Tindall of Clear Lake; twelve grandchildren: Dawn (Terry) Barnes-Eenhuis, Rick (Deb) Dirksen, Chadd Dirksen, Jason (Mary Beth) Barnes, Jeremy (Robyn) Barnes, Jody Moen, Jill (Nick) Wilson, Casey Nevill, Emily Tindall, Ethan Tindall, Elaina Tindall, and Ellie Rose Tindall; six great-grandchildren: Cody Barnes, Kaytlyn Anzivino, Mandey Anzivino, Cayson Barnes, Rylan Barnes, and Daelyn Genzler; two great-great-grandchildren: Lilly Barnes, and Addison Barnes; and three step-children: Jo (Ken) Jenson, Paul (Connie) Swanson, and Judy (Larry) Myer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wives: Delores Schmitt, Gertrude Barnes, and Elizabeth Barnes; one daughter, Diane Nevill; one brother, Luther Barnes; one sister, Mavis Sorenson; and one step-son Lorry Swanson.
