Obituary


Ruby K. (Mikesh) Dwyer, 98, of Marion and formerly of Belmond passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Funeral services for Ruby Dwyer will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 304 3rd Avenue Northeast in Belmond with Pastor Dawn Pederson officiating. Burial will take place at Amsterdam Cemetery in Goodell. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Ruby Kathlyn, daughter of Charles and Kathlyn (Pannhoff) Mikesh, was born on December 12, 1920 on a farm west of Klemme. She grew up in the Hickory Grove area and attended country school through 8th grade and later went on to receive her GED. Ruby worked as a nurse’s aide at Mercy Hospital in Mason City and later for an engraving company in Waukon. After retirement, Ruby worked at a little gift shop in Lansing.

Ruby was a hardworking and self-sufficient woman that was never afraid to work. She enjoyed painting on canvas, making rock jewelry, sewing, gardening, and baking. Ruby loved to go fishing. Ruby was an active member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien, where she also participated in the choir and bell choir.

Ruby is survived by her five children: Mavis Schmidt of Northwood, Janelle (Marvin) Dryden of Honolulu, HI, Joseph (Joanna) Schmidt of Kensett, Jane (Doug) Hamilton of Marion, and Marshall Hanson of Cedar Rapids; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brother Charles (Wanda) Mikesh of Belmond; sister-in-law Emily Mikesh of Belmond; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; two infant sons; sons Lynn Schmidt and Richard Schmidt; four sisters: Colina Hahn, Gladys Shahan, Grace Zaspel, and Connie Roling; and brother George Mikesh.
