Condolences

Russ was such a nice guy. I was saddened to learn of his passing. We went way back to the late 70's. In fact, I took him to Ia. City after he rolled the water truck after the races way back when. I always considered him a dear friend. Peace be with all the family he left here on earth. Fly high my friend, we all know you earned those wings!

russ, thanks for being a friend through thick and thin. thanks for being a great teammate on our little league teams. we won every year because you were the best pitcher. thanks for taking me under your wing and teaching me the newspaper business when you served as editor of the ranch house journal. thanks for the thrills you supplied when you pitched a one-hitter against Mason City and when you picked Mason City's speedster Clarence Turner off third base. thanks for yelling, "Hey Hoff, look out," when you threw the ball to me. if you hadn't yelled and woke me up, the ball would have hit me in the face and I would not have been able to tag Turner out. may you rest in peace, my friend.

I hope there is some kind of service so his classmates can say good bye. He was a great baseball pitcher, who supported his teammates. He was soft spoken and cared.
