Obituary

Sandra “Sandi” Wallace, 60, of Belmond passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Belmond. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 14, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, 2211 130th Street rural Belmond, with Pastor Jim Gochenouer officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2023, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday. Sandra Jane Wallace, the daughter of James and Janet (Fletcher) Wallace, was born December 27, 1962 in Effingham, Illinois. The family moved to the Belmond area when Sandi was 12 and has resided here ever since. During her middle school and high school years her interest in music really developed. She was involved in the McDonald’s All American Band and toured Europe, with Jazz Abroad, where she sat first chair playing the trumpet. She graduated from Belmond High School with the class of 1981. After high school, Sandi attended Dordt College where she met Paul Roberts.  The couple was united in marriage in 1984. To this union two sons were born, Christophé and Travis.  Later the couple divorced. Sandi was a hard worker, having various jobs, while continuing her education at Waldorf College. She loved being a school bus driver for the Belmond-Klemme School District, letting her attend all her children and grandchildren’s sporting events. Her true passion was helping people, which she was able to do for over 20 years working as a social worker for Families First and DHS. In her free time, Sandi enjoyed live music including Tree Town, karaoke, campfires, and snacking on peaches from Illinois.  Most of all she cherished the time she spent with her family and friends, hosting many family functions at her home. She was extremely faith based and served as a Deacon at St. Olaf Lutheran Church.  She was the prime example of a good and faithful servant. She was selfless, received joy from helping others and was determined to make the world a better place.  She will be missed for her warm smile, hard work and fighter spirit. She is survived by her son Christophé (Tanya) Roberts of Belmond and their children Madison, Cameron and Aubrey; son Travis (Kami) Roberts of Belmond and their son Sawyer and their expecting child Georgia; her mother Janet McMahon; siblings James “Tony” (Laura) Wallace, Brianne (Ty) Griffith and Kurt (Tracy) McMahon; special friend Ed Johnson along with many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, James Wallace, two infant sisters Cheryl and Deborah and step-father Dennis McMahon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to House of Hope.
