Sterling Eugene "Skip" Chytry, 76, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024, surrounded by his loving sisters and brother at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Belmond.
A Celebration of Skip's Life will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at The Red Shed Event Center, 908 Second Street North West, in Clarion. Happy Hour will continue until 6:00 PM.
“Skip” as he was affectionately known, was born August 30, 1948, to Janice I. (Anderson) Chytry and Eugene H. Chytry in Lake Oswego, Oregon.
When his father became ill, the parents, along with sister Terry, moved to Clarion where his mother’s family lived. After Eugene’s death, Janice married Darrell Evans of Eagle Grove, and they were blessed with Steve and Jayne.
Skip graduated from Clarion High School and then attended Drake University, attaining a B.S. in Fine Arts. He then joined Evans Furniture, the family business. After the passing of Darrell and Janice, he assumed management of the store along with his sister, Jayne.
Skip had a passion for design, both indoors and out. He shared his artistic abilities by rendering pen and ink drawings of the Gazebo and Depot to promote Clarion and its history.
Skip had a taste for travel and loved exploring by foot, bike and UTV, the back roads of Iowa and South Dakota. He was especially proud that he was able to climb Harney Peak, South Dakota, every year on his birthday. The Sturgis bike rally was a highlight for many years. He had a sly sense of humor and enjoyed good conversation with friends over a “cool one.”
He will be missed by his 2 sisters, Terry (Chytry) Kreitlow and Jayne (Evans) Pate and husband Tim; brother Steve Evans and wife, Mary; along with many nieces and nephews. He cherished his friends and considered many his family as well.
In lieu of flowers and other customary remembrances, Skip's family suggests that memorial contributions can be made in his name to Iowa Public Television, and sent to the family's attention c/o Ewing Funeral Home, PO Box 363, Clarion, Iowa, 50525.
